What it does

ainfo is short for "audio info". It is a commandline tool which will display some information about audio files supported by Houdini.

e.g.

C:\WINDOWS\Media>ainfo "Windows XP Startup.wav"
Windows XP Startup.wav:
       Sample Rate:  22050 Hz
        # Channels:  2
        # Samples:   106150 (4.81406 seconds)
