Blend Object
From Odwiki
The Blend Object is used to blend the transforms of several objects. It a very fast OP so use it over most other methods when applicable. Things that can be achieved with the blend object are...
- Creating a null that sits between 2 objects. This is done by turning off the rotation and scale in the properties tab.
- Translating to one object and orientating like another. By turning off the translation on one object and turning off the rotation of the other object.
- If you want to blend between two objects orientations, it is recommended that you change the type to sequence and set the sequence to .5 and tick "shortest path rotation blending".
- Orient Axes can be used to make a Look-At constraint that is maybe better than the regular Look-At. It has the ability to aim at one object and set the up vector with another. The popup help reads...
- (Blend only) When exactly three parents are input this option will orient the child's local axes to match the orientation of the parents as follows:
- First Parent is the Axes center
- The Second Parent Axes +X (aiming target)
- Third Parent Axes +Y (roll axis / up vector)
- So to make this into a Look-at :
In blend mode add the first object ; that will be the object's position.
In the second slot add the object to aim at and in the third add the up vector object. Then set the transforms off on the second two objects. Now you have yourself a fast efficient featured Look-At
This is just scratching the surface so dig a little deeper and find the rest of the tricks of this object.
Edit this if you have something to add. It is really easy to do, all you guys that keep on explaining how to do a particular thing in the forums over and over again, just explain it once here. *PS Delete this rant when you want to.
