Caching in POPs

To cache particles in POPs, hit 'P' in the viewer to bring up the pop networks parameters, then switch to the Viewer tab. Set the Cache Size to be the number of frames you want cached. Once cached, a particle animation doesn't have to recook when played again, and can also be played backwards.
By setting the cache size to -1 houdini defaults to infinite caching.
