The Channel Editor Pane is where you edit your animation. In other packages this might be called the Curve or Animation editor. All animation of parameters in Houdini involves using Channels, since it's possible to easily mix keyframe and expression animation, among other things.

The Channel Editor has 3 distinct "modes" which are Graph, Table and Dopesheet.

Graph Mode:

Jive baby

Table Mode:

Jive table mode

Dopesheet Mode:

Jive dopesheet mode

The Channel Editor uses the StandardHoudiniConventions so you can easily learn about its functions.

It's a little-known fact that all areas of Houdini have "internal" names that are not meant to be used by the end-user. However, one exception is the Channel Editor. Its name is "Jive" and you will hear older users of Houdini (and Prisms) often refer to the Channel Editor as "Jive" so now you know.
