hexpand is a command line utility used to extract a directory structure from a hip file. The directory structure can be browsed and modified and then combined again into a hip file using hcollapse.

On Windows, this is actually a csh script around the command hcpio. To use this, you must have cygwin installed. See instructions at UnixOnWindows.
