IncompatibleSoftware
From Odwiki
This page lists other software that have known to be incompatible with Houdini at one time or another. Only if you experience problems, then you might want to try turning off some of the software listed below to see if it helps.
- Anti-Virus Software
- OSX - It has been reported that if the realtime virus protection is enabled in VirusBarrier, Houdini can be very slow to start up.
- Windows - It has been reported that Avast Anti-Virus could cause problems with Houdini's Render Region tool, even after it is disabled. In some cases, it needs to be uninstalled and the system rebooted until the Render Region would work as it should.
- Firewall software
- Windows - A firewall might block Houdini/Mantra/etc from communicating with the licensing tools. If using the default Windows firewall, it should be fine as long as you do NOT block any Houdini application/process. A symptom of this is if you see errors like "Warning: invalid .mplay_lock file detected" and "mantra: Could not open imager".
- Windows - Safety.Net firewall software
- Windows - "Comodo" firewall software. You need to specify hmaster, mplay, mantra, etc to the list of "trusted" apps.
- Windows Live Essentials
- Users have reported that if you have Windows Live Essentials Beta installed, then Houdini applications won't start until you uninstall Windows Live Essentials Beta
- Network Drivers
- Windows - Some users have reported requiring Intel WiFi management software to be uninstalled before Houdini can be installed
- Tablet Drivers
- Windows XP SP3 - Some tablet drivers have been known to cause License Administrator start up problems.
- Bittorrent clients
- Windows - If a bittorrent client uses up too many ports, then this can stop Houdini from communicating with the licensing tools
- mouseemu
- Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) - "screen update is very chokky-laggy when I try to rotate my scene with space+left mouse. It feels like the navigation just does not want to work"
- ObjectDock (StarDock)
- Windows - ObjectDock has been known to cause startup problems.
