LightObject
From Odwiki
I am going to first focus on the handles that the light object has to offer...
Selecting the Light Object
You can select a light object a couple different ways..
- In the network editor pane (alt+2) you can left-click the light object OP.
- In the viewer pane (alt+1) you can press the s key to change into selection mode and then right click the light OP.
Either way, once the light object is selected, it will turn yellow. This indicates that the light object is now selected.
How to turn on the Transform Handles of the light object
In the viewer pane, you can turn on the scale/rotate/translate handles to move the light object. These Transform Handles also work with other object types.
- In the viewer pane (alt+1), make sure you are in selection mode. (s key)
- Right-click mouse will then display the handle.
There are three different transformation handles each with an associated hotkey
- translate = t key
- rotate = r key
- scale = e key
To adjust the Pivot point of the light object, click the insert button. This is a toggle between the Transform Handle and the Pivot Handle. Pressing enter will change the handle type to the Light Object Specific handle.
You have three light object handles to choose from:
- Press the z key to display the cone handle. This is where you can adjust the cone angle and cone delta parameters.
- Press the f key to display the frustrum handle. This is where you can adjust the near and far clippling plane of your light.
- Press the o key for the orientation handle. Here you can aim the light at your subject. I try to use the Orientation Handles rather than the Transform Handles for setting my lights, but either way works.
Other Light Object Handle tips
- Middle click on any handle will bring up the ladder which will allow you to make adjustments in different increments.
- Pressing the k-key will set a keyframe on all handle parameters.
- You can reset all of your parameters by right clicking a handle and select return to defaults. This will send all parameters back to default.
