Micro-polygon rendering describes a process of dicing up primitives (like NURBS) into pixel sized polygons. These polygons (called micro-polygons) are then shaded and sampled to produce the final image.

The size of the micro-polygons is typically around the size of a pixel but can be controlled using ShadingQuality.
