Vector Fields
Vector Fields are arrays of vectors. The arrays are typically 2 or 3 dimensional.
2D vector fields for a variety of tasks including Line integral convolution ( http://www.otherthings.com/uw/lic.html ).
3D vector fields can be used for a variety of tasks as well, including devining particle flow. The Houdini image format i3d can store one or many named 3d layers of vectors.
For sparse vector fields, one can also make use of the AttribTransferSOP and might also be interested in PointClouds.
